Cookie Company Fundraiser

We are once again selling Westroads Cookie Company frozen cookie dough during our one and only fundraiser.  Please support our program by purchasing cookie dough from an R.E. student or placing an order through our R.E. Office.  Proceeds from the fundraiser support the needs of the R.E. program, including purchasing our awesome new curriculum, live streaming for parent/child R.E. use and tuition assistance.   The fundraiser will run through the month of September.  Thank you to Ellen and Kent Junge of the Cookie Company at Westroads for their support of our Religious Education program and for providing delicious cookies for our Parent Meeting.

 Classes have begun for 2017-18!

We are happy to have our students, catechists and families back in Religious Education!

1st grade, First night of class Jesus loves me

First graders learn ‘Jesus Loves Me’.

We are have  many new activities planned for the upcoming  year to involve our children and families in faith formation.

Registration forms for 2017-18 are posted on the R.E. Registration page (see link above). Be sure to list a 2nd choice for day and time in case your first choice for class is full.

We have a wonderful program that can support your family’s needs!  St. Stephen’s offers multiple class times on Tues. and Wed. evenings for children in Kindergarten through high school, as well as Sunday School for our youngest students who are age 3-5. We also have a wonderful class for special needs students.  We can help children catch up on missed sacraments and become part of our faith community.

There is a $310 family cap, so total tuition for a family with two or more children enrolled in Religious Education will not exceed $310.  (Sacrament preparation and late fees are not included in the family cap.)   Families new to our program do not need to pay the $25 late registration fee.  If you have any questions about registration or about St. Stephen’s R.E. program, please contact us by phone at 402-896-5683 or by email  R.E. Office

Tuition  can be paid in full or by EFT payments to be taken from your account. We have tuition assistance available, as well as volunteer positions available for which tuition is waived for your children. There is no late fee for students who are new to our program!

Families who are not registered parishioners at St. Stephen the Martyr pay tuition at the same rate as St. Stephen’s parishioners, but are not eligible for tuition assistance.

See the Registration link above for forms and information.  If you have any questions about registration or about St. Stephen’s R.E. program, please contact us by phone at 402-896-5683 or email the R.E. Office.

Have you thought about being a catechist?

Our children’s religious education is  dependent on the dedication and loving witness of our catechists.  Have you thought about being a catechist but have never given it a try?  We have  several classes that need another person to teach with a catechist that is already in place. Our catechists teach in teams of two with a class of 15 students. All lesson plans and materials are provided.  Tuition is waived for the children of our adult volunteers and child care for their younger children is provided in the Little Saints Center.  Volunteer options are described on page 2 of the registration form. (All volunteers must have current Safe Environment certification (including training and a background check) before working with students. See the Volunteer link at left for upcoming training dates or the ‘Safe Environment’ page at www.archomaha.org.)

 Circle of GracCOG logo smalle

Circle of Grace lessons will be taught in January to students in Kindergarten through grade 8 (except for gr. 3, which covered the lessons in the fall).  The Circle of Grace program was developed to help our children understand the unique and special value they have as children of God, recognize safe and unsafe situations and develop steps and strategies to foster safe environments.  This is not a sex-ed or ‘stranger danger’ curriculum.  Circle of Grace is built on the foundation of our Catholic belief that the Holy Spirit dwells within us and is always with us as Helper and Guide. A parent information packet from the Archdiocese of Omaha containing the philosophy, goals and objectives of the Circle of Grace curriculum is available below.  If you have any questions about the Circle of Grace program, please contact Mary Maguire at m.maguire@stephen.org or 402-896-5683.

WEATHER CANCELLATION POLICY

Snowman for extreme weatherShould icy or snowy weather occur, the Religious Education program observes the school closing policies of the Millard School District . If Millard Public Schools cancel classes or evening activities due to inclement weather, we will not hold Religious Education classes that evening.  Occasionally, because of deteriorating weather conditions during the day, we will need to cancel R.E. classes late in the afternoon or early evening, even when Millard has held classes.  Cancellations and plans for re-scheduling activities will be published on the parish web-site at http://stephen.org/faith-formation/religious-education/.  Parents should use their discretion as to whether it is safe for their children to attend class.  The safety of our children is always our primary concern.

Don’t let your child miss out on Religious Education!

Is God calling you to get your family more involved in the Church?

There are many ways for children to be involved at St. Stephen’s.  We offer a wonderful middle-school youth ministry (the Edge) 14 Chrism Mass AB Lucas with Connor Ekborg and Grandmother Bonnie Turnerthat meets Tuesdays from 6:30 – 8 pm in the Dining Room.  Children can also sing in the Children’s Choir, serve as altar servers at Mass, participate in Vacation Bible School and Parish Athletic League sports, as well as other family activities.  For high school youth, we have a very active (and awesome!) Life Teen group that meets Sundays at 7 pm in the Parish Center.  Please see the parish home page and Youth Ministry sites for upcoming activities and events.
