“For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.” –Jeremiah 29:11

Dear Saint Stephen Parish,

Do you have ideas on how St. Stephen the Martyr Parish could be great? Would you be willing to share those ideas and discuss ideas that others have? I have commissioned a small group of parishioners under the guidance of the Pastoral Council to embark on developing a plan for St. Stephen the Martyr for the next 3 to 5 years. But, the plan cannot be built without input that draws on the faith, creativity, and talents of our parishioners.

In January and February, the Pastoral Planning Committee will be hosting a series of listening sessions in which we will invite parishioners to provide input that will be used to develop a plan that will guide St. Stephens in the coming years. We will be reaching out to all parishioners and asking them to pray for these efforts and to participate in one of the sessions. Please watch for communications in the upcoming weeks for dates and times.

In Christ,

Father Dave

Next Week:

Parish Reconciliation Service

We will have many priests at our Parish Reconciliation service Monday, December 18, 2017 at 7pm to 9pm. Complete your Advent preparations with reconciliation.

Christmas Consideration

This year, Christmas falls on a Monday. Since Catholics are obliged to attend Mass on the Fourth Sunday of Advent and again on Christmas, there are two obligations to fulfill. These can be fulfilled in any of the following ways:

  • Saturday evening and Sunday evening;
  • Saturday evening and any time after midnight on Monday;
  • Sunday morning and Sunday evening;
  • Sunday morning and any time after midnight on Monday;
  • Sunday evening and any time after midnight on Monday.

In the last option, the Sunday obligation is fulfilled even if the Mass is for Christmas Eve.  Attending only a Christmas Eve mass does not fulfill the Christmas obligation.

The Christmas mailing from the parish will be arriving in your homes next week.  It contains our Christmas mass schedule and the opportunities for reconciliation.

The Liturgical Schedule for February through May is in the process of being prepared.  Now is the time to get your Vacation Requests or Mass Change Requests to the Liturgy Office.  Please contact Karen at prior to January 12th.
