Dear Saint Stephen the Martyr Parish Family,
I want to take this opportunity to communicate with you about communication. We certainly have some work to do in this area, don’t we? The parish staff and the Pastoral Council are examining the current forms of communication within the parish, and we are working to develop an effective communications plan.
Besides the Pastor’s Connection, work has begun on new websites for our parish, Religious Education/Youth Ministry program, and our school. My hope is to have these “up and running” by the end of the calendar year. We will also be looking at other ways to keep people informed of the many activities that take place in our parish.
I would also like to share with you my basic practice for communication in the parish. In my experience, I have found that people like to contact the pastor when there is a question or a concern with an employee, volunteer, or a particular ministry in the parish. When this happens, I will ask if you have talked to the person who is involved in the situation. If you haven’t, I will ask you to contact that person first. If you have tried to resolve the issue with the person, I will ask that you contact the staff person who oversees the activity or ministry. If you have communicated with the staff person and still are not satisfied with the result, please contact me. I will work with you and the staff person in charge to make sure the situation is addressed to the best of our ability.
We have a wonderful, dedicated staff in our parish, and my expectation is that they will deal with questions and concerns in a Christian, professional manner. I have the same expectation of parishioners and school families who communicate with us. We’re not always going to see “eye to eye” on issues, but our conversations should be based on Christian charity, and not on anger, insults, or threats.
Thank you for your continued prayers for our parish community, and the many staff members and volunteers who make many sacrifices to help all of us grow closer to the Lord. May we all strive to honor Him through the way that we live and serve others.
Your servant in Christ,
What is happening?
We will have our annual Ministry Fair in the dining room after all masses. There will be representatives from the ministries at St. Stephen to answer your questions. If you are looking for a way to “get involved” or to meet new people, joining a ministry is the way to go. Come check us out!
We will have Hope and Dan DeLuca of our parish speaking before all of the masses on Stewardship to help St. Stephen kick-off our annual Stewardship Renewal campaign. This is an inspiring young couple with a wonderful family.
October 21-22 we will have a second collection for World Mission Sunday.
October 27th is Trunk Or Treat! Come to the South parking lot and decorate the “Trunk” of your vehicle and pass out candy. Parents, this is a safe and responsible candy distribution put on by our very own Youth Group. Bring your little ones and have a wonderful, fun evening. Look for the announcement in the bulletin for details.
October 28-29 we will have people at the doors taking donations for our Parish Outreach Mission benefiting Habitat for Humanity.
In three weeks, November 4-5, we will begin our stewardship renewal process with Commitment Sunday! More information is coming.
