Bible Study -The First Letter to Corinthians Bible Study-The Quick Journey through the Bible
New participants are welcome That Man is You-Becoming a Man after God's Own Heart is a 26 week, 2-13 week series, interactive Bible study focused on the development of men in the modern world. It combines the best research from science with the teachings of the Catholic faith and the wisdom of the saints to develop the vision of authentic men capable of transforming society. The Fall session emphasizes the development of the scriptural vision of man, especially in his relationship to his family and society while the Spring session emphasizes the practical means of becoming that man. This program will begin on Friday Jan. 13th. The doors open at 5:30am, a continental breakfast will be available, and the program will start promptly at 6:00 The program will conclude at 7:15 to allow participants ample time to get to work. Bible Study -First Letter to Corinthians Beginning Jan. 9th in the GPC we will be offering for the 1st time a Bible Study on the First Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians and provides with a fuller insight into the life of an early Christian Community and was written about A.D. 56 making it one of the earliest writings available to us. The conflicts of the early Christians in Corinth were in many ways similar to our struggles today as Christians. With divisions, immorality, persecution, and other trials of the faithful, the message of St. Paul to the Corinthians is a much-needed message for our own times. This will be a 10 part series and the Study Guide and Workbook will be $23. Registration is required to ensure adequate resources. Classes begin at 6:30pm. Where do we come from? Are we important? Is there meaning to our existence? Genesis is an ancient book , but it is written for modern times and it contains the answers that mankind asks in every age. As the first book of the Bible, Genesis is the foundation of the Torah, the first 5 books of the Old Testament. In Genesis we have the words of God himself giving us the answers we seek. Genesis will be offered on Wednesday beginning Sept. 14 at 9:30 am, with childcare, and 7:00 pm . The cost of materials is $50. Lectio Divina Prayer Group-The Gospel of Mark We will use the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible "The Gospel of Mark" for this class. (Book cost $10) This prayer group will meet in the Daily Mass Chapel every 1st Wednesday of the month from 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Babysitting available. The group will also offer additional days of prayer and fellowship as, together, we will visit some of our beautiful Catholic Churches in Omaha and surroundings. The cost of the books is $9. Bible Study-Breaking Open the Word This Bible Study will discuss the Weekend Mass readings as they are presented in the Lectionary. This year is Church Liturgical Year A so we will study/discuss the Gospel of Matthew. We will meet in the GPC at 10:30 AM Thursdays during the summer session in the Board Room. Bible Study-The Quick Journey through the Bible Beginning Jan. 10th in the GPC at 6:30 pm, we will be offering the Quick Journey, an eight-part series taught by Jeff Cavins which provides an excellent introduction and overview of the Bible from a Catholic perspective. The Quick Journey study briefly covers salvation history in a series of eight, half-hour talks that are complemented by group discussion questions, useful maps and charts, and brief assignments for home study. This study makes the complexity of the Bible simple through an easy-to-follow narrative approach and an ingenious color-coded Bible timeline. This is a great way to “get your feet wet” and learn how to begin authentic Catholic Bible study. Registration is required to ensure adequate resources. This class meets the 2nd Saturday of the month in the GPC beginning Sept. 11th at 8:00AM. You will be studying two books, "Jesus' Journey to the Cross" by Jeanne Kun and "Heart to Heart with God" by Ralph Torrelli. This program explains not only what Catholics believe and why, but is presented as an advanced apologetics program utilizing Sacred Scriptures, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and the writings of the Church’s saints and spiritual masters. Anyone teaching religion can benefit from this program as well as any Catholic who would like to learn more about our Faith. The workbook and study guide are $35 and registration is required to ensure adequate resources. Classes are offered on Tuesday morning at 9:30 and evening at 7:00 pm and will last 10 weeks.
