St. Stephens on Monday evenings. Troop 494 is a growing and active organization
with 6 to 10 new scouts joining each year. The Boy Scouts of America develops
future civic leaders by providing young boys the opportunity to learn and hone
their leadership skills by doing. Troop 494 is a Scout led organization that
provides through teamwork, activities, and challenges, experiences that create
leaders and build character. But most important of all, we have lots of FUN.
Troop 494 goes: camping, bike riding, hiking, canoeing, swimming, sight seeing,
horse back riding, backpacking, fishing, and more.

Cub Scouts
Cub Pack 494 has been serving youths since it began at St. Stephen in November,
1992, with the Knights of Columbus as its chartered organization. The pack
averages around 50 boys each school year. Each February, the pack graduates
around 10 scouts into Boy Scouting and in May, it gains around 10 or more First
Graders who form the Tiger den(s).
The pack is run by volunteer parents who form the PACK COMMITTEE, who
are mostly the den leaders and other parents who chair seasonal posts, such as
Scouting for Food, Friends of Scouting, Space Derby, Blue and Gold Banquet,
Scout Sunday Mass/Religious Emblem Coordinator, Summer Activities, etc. The
year-round posts of Cubmaster, Committee Chair, Treasurer, Advancement are held
preferably by non-den leaders.
The Cub Scouting Program is a 12-month program, although den meetings are
somewhat reduced in the summer. The pack stays active in the summer by having a
variety of events like Ice Cream Social, Millard Days Parade, baseball game at
Rosenblatt, Henry Doorley Zoo Overnighter, Bike Rodeo, Golf Clinic, Fishing
Derby (Summer and Winter), Fontenelle Forest hike, and most importantly SUMMER
CAMP at Camp Eagle in Fremont.
In addition to these activities, a scout may earn religious emblems according
to his religious denomination and according to his age. This earned award is a
permanent patch that a scout can wear on his uniform throughout his scouting
life.
Pack 494 participates in one fundraiser that funds awards, leader training,
activities, and materials.
